Frequently Asked Questions

How long do watch repairs typically take?

Battery and strap replacements are usually done while you wait. Movement servicing and most mechanical repairs take three to six weeks, depending on parts availability. Full restoration of antique or vintage timepieces can take longer — we’ll always provide a realistic timeline at the time of quotation.

Do I need to make an appointment?

No appointment is needed. You can drop in during opening hours to discuss your timepiece and receive a free, no-obligation quotation.

Do you service antique and vintage watches?

Yes. We specialise in the sympathetic restoration of antique and vintage timepieces, preserving their historical integrity wherever possible. Original parts are retained where they remain serviceable, and replacements are sourced to match the period.

Can you replace a battery while I wait?

Yes — battery replacements, along with most leather strap fittings and link adjustments, are completed in-store while you wait where possible. Water-resistant watches are pressure-tested after the new battery is fitted.

Can you source replacement parts for older watches?

Wherever possible, yes. We have a network of trusted suppliers and specialist parts dealers, and where genuine parts are no longer available we can often have replacements hand-made to the original specification.

Will my watch’s water resistance be maintained?

For watches designed to be water-resistant, gaskets are replaced and the case is pressure-tested following any work that breaks the seal. Watches that cannot meet their original water-resistance rating will be clearly flagged at collection.

Do you repair watches not purchased from Goodwins?

Yes — we welcome timepieces from any source, whether bought elsewhere or inherited. Each watch is treated with the same care and attention as the pieces in our own collection.

Are your repairs guaranteed?

All work carried out in our workshop is guaranteed against faulty workmanship for twelve months from collection. Movement services come with the same guarantee, subject to normal wear.
