Gold Brooches
Antique Edwardian 14ct Gold and Seed Pearl Heart and Bow Brooch, Circa 1900
A charming antique 14ct yellow gold brooch, circa 1900, of elegant Edwardian design, featuring an intricate central motif of two intertwined hearts, surmounted by an elaborate ribbon bow.
The openwork hearts are delicately outlined with closely set seed pearls, their soft, lustrous surfaces contrasting beautifully with the warm tone of the yellow gold.
Above, the graceful ribbon bow is similarly decorated with seed pearls, with softly scrolling loops and trailing ribbon ends adding to its delicate appearance. A single pearl drop hangs from the lower point of the central heart motif, while the brooch is mounted upon two slender, parallel horizontal gold bars, each terminating in a rounded pearl terminal.
A fine gold chain forms a graceful swag between the bars beneath the central design, adding movement and further decorative detail.
The combination of the intertwined hearts, seed pearls, ribbon bow and delicate chain gives the brooch an especially romantic character, typical of sentimental jewellery at the turn of the twentieth century.
The reverse is fitted with a traditional antique brooch fitting and pin.
An exceptionally pretty example of circa 1900 jewellery, with its intertwined hearts and pearl-set bow conveying the period symbolism of love, union and enduring affection.
