Antique Victorian 18ct Gold Circular Almandine Garnet Brooch, Circa 1870

A striking late Victorian brooch, circa 1870, crafted in 18ct yellow gold and centred with a dramatic cluster of richly coloured almandine garnets.

The circular domed design is composed of a series of oval and round-cut garnets in closed-back collet settings, their deep raspberry-red to purplish-red hues creating a vibrant contrast against the warm gold mount.

The gemstones are arranged in an elevated floral and berry-like cluster, interspersed with textured gold spheres of varying sizes that lend depth, movement and sculptural interest to the composition.

Surrounding the cluster, a broad circular border is finely finished with delicate beadwork and twisted rope detailing, characteristic of high-quality Victorian goldsmithing.

The reverse is fitted with a traditional pin and clasp fastening and incorporates a glazed compartment, likely intended for the retention of a personal keepsake or memorial memento, reflecting the sentimental traditions so prevalent in Victorian jewellery.
