A striking mid-19th-century brooch, circa 1860, fashioned from a beautifully carved sardonyx plaque of softly scalloped oval form.
The stone displays a captivating monochrome palette of translucent grey, smoky brown and deep black tones, arranged in radiating, petal-like bands that create a striking floral effect across the surface.
At the centre is a distinctive five-pointed star motif, pavé-set with five sparkling old cut diamonds, each individually framed within the star-shaped setting.
The contrast between the luminous sardonyx and the warm, antique brilliance of the diamonds gives the brooch an especially dramatic and sculptural appearance.
