Antique & Vintage Rings
This item is available from our shop at Goodwins Queensferry Street.
A striking Edwardian double serpent ring, crafted in 18ct yellow gold and hallmarked Birmingham, 1904.
The sculptural design features two sinuous serpents entwined around the finger, their elegant, overlapping bodies creating a fluid, three-dimensional silhouette.
Each serpent has a vivid ruby-set eye, whilst five graduated old-cut diamonds adorn the back of each snake, forming two sparkling lines of antique-cut stones that contrast beautifully with the warm lustre of the yellow gold.
The serpents' sweeping curves and intricately arranged bodies give the ring a wonderful sense of movement, with the rich pinkish-red rubies adding distinctive flashes of colour against the brilliance of the diamonds.
A particularly characterful example of early twentieth-century jewellery, the ring incorporates the enduring serpent motif, traditionally associated with eternal love, fidelity, renewal and eternity.
Beautifully combining sculptural goldsmithing with the charm of old-cut diamonds and vibrant rubies, this unusual antique ring is both a striking statement piece and a jewel rich in romantic symbolism.
